| Treatments for Parkinson’s Though there is no cure yet, Parkinson’s disease is a constant disorder that does require what they call broad based management that would include the patient, their family, education on the disease, maybe going to a support group, sometimes talking about it with people who are going through the exact same thing may help you cope better. You also have to take care of yourself, through diet and exercise. There is no cure for Parkinson’s disease but there are medications and surgeries that can help with the relief of the symptoms. Sometimes with just basic exercise such as yoga or tai chi and even dancing can alleviate some of the symptoms. But in case of people who request drugs, as a form of treatment will see such drugs as Levodopa, this is the most common type of medication for treating PD.
Carbidopa and benserazide are inhibitors; they interact with the Levodopa or L-Dopa. Then there is the drug called Talcopone this prevents the COMT enzyme from lengthing the effects of the L-dopa. One of the side effects to that is liver failure so the usage by doctors is very limited. There is a similar drug to that one called entacapone, the efficiency is the same but it has not been known to cause liver damage. There are also surgical treatments that are done but are not for everyone. It at one time was very common put the medical profession has cut back because the effective drug Levodopa was working; there was no need for the surgery. Now the surgeries are being done only on people who have a very advanced case of PD. Because PD affects the speech sometime sit is necessary to get speech therapy. The therapy focuses on the patient’s clarity of speech. |
