| Symptoms of Parkinson’s Parkinson’s disease affects the motor skills and the speech skills. There are some symptoms that you have to look for because the symptoms could affect the moods, behavior, thinking and sensation. Every person is different some symptoms you may see some symptoms and some people and not in others. Some of the motor symptoms would be tremors, the shaking of the hands, arms, upper body and head. Then others suffer rigidity, this is the stiffness in the muscle tone, and this is when the limbs move rather slowly. Then there is a symptom called brady/kinesia/akinesa, this slowly or absence of any movement. This is also relates to the body’s ability to perform fast alternating movements. Postural instability is the failure of the reflexes to work, this can lead to balance problems as well as falls. There may be the problems with gait or posture shifts, decreased arm swing, the neck does not move as swiftly as before, your posture may stoop over instead of standing straight up.
You may shuffle your feet rather than pick them up when you walk. Your feet may freeze, not meaning cold but as in not moving. You may experience painful muscle contractions as well. You may feel tired all the time, infrequent blinking and the inability to swallow. Remember not everyone has the same symptoms. PD also causes Speech problems as well. You may experience soft speech, almost like a hoarse sound. Drooling may occur due to the inability to swallow. You may experience lack of verbal clarity and fluency. There are other symptoms too such as dementia, loss of sexual desire, you sense of touch may not be the same. Memory loss, sleep disturbances, mood changes and a delayed sense of time. With medications, these symptoms can be controlled and alleviated, maybe one day there will be a cure. |
